My name is Olivier and I have an addiction. I am addicted to the sound of the Kora. The sound of this African string instrument is quintessential in Western African music, from Mali to Gambia, from Toumani Diabate to Youssou N’Dour. If you have received a massage from me, chances are the music in the background had some kora in it.
Recently a number of artists from Mali have exported the kora outside of its traditional playground. Fusion attempts between kora and western (like the stunning Kulanjan
from Diabate and Mahal) or eastern (like the beautiful Strings Tradition by Mamadou Diabate and al.) musical traditions have produced incredible albums. This
is one of them.
The combination of the kora and the cello creates a beautiful, sorrowful and deeply hypnotic sound. I highly recommend it.
Enjoy!
